This work explores identity as a layered structure, formed through both protection and change.

A human figure merges with butterfly form, suggesting transformation shaped by pressure, time, and lived experience. Chitin, the material that forms the outer shell of insects, becomes a symbol for the armour we develop as we move through the world. It protects us, but it also becomes part of who we are.

The divided face speaks to inner duality. One side feels structured and controlled, while the other carries emotion, instinct, and softness. These parts are not in conflict. They exist together, shaping a more complex sense of self. The wings suggest growth that does not come from softness alone, but from resilience. Beauty forms through protection, not despite it.

At the center, the human presence remains. Beneath the shell, pattern, and transformation, there is still awareness. Identity is not fixed here. It shifts, protects itself, sheds, and reforms.
